The profusion of archaeological monuments dating from
the IV millenium BC to the XV century, gives the researchers a reason to call Madara the
"Bulgarian Troy".
The most remarkable monument in the reserve is the unique
rock-relief "Madara Horseman".
It is unique in Europe and is a paragon of Old-Bulgarian
mastery. It symbolizes the power and majesty of Bulgaria. The inscriptions in Greek that
are around it, reveal the heroic deeds of three Bulgarian khans - Tervel, Kormesii and
Omurtag. The Madara Horseman is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List.
In the history Madara is known as a cult centre.
One can see sanctuaries, a heathen shrine, christian churches, chapels here.
The biggest in Bulgaria rock monastery with more than 150 cells was created in
the rocks of the plateau in XIV century.

tourist resources in Bulgaria.
